Vatel
With war brewing with Holland, in 1671, a penniless prince invites Louis XIV to about three days of celebrations at a chateau at Chantilly. The prince needs a commission because a general, hence the extravagances would be to impress the king. May be Vatel, the steward, a man of very low arrival, and honour, gift. The prince is craven in his longing for stature: no task is dishonorable or too menial for him to give Vatel. He finds himself interested in Anne de Montausier while Vatel tries to sustain faith.
