Doctor Finlay
A. J. Cronin's stories about the fictional hero Dr. Finlay are the inspiration for the British television series Doctor Finlay. It is a continuation of the well-liked BBC series Dr. Finlay's Casebook. It happens in the 1940s after John Finlay had returned from serving in the military. The creation of the new National Health Service and the modernization of the medical practice at Arden House in Tannochbrae, Scotland, are two of the early plotlines. In the program, David Rintoul plays Dr. Finlay, Ian Bannen plays Dr. Cameron, his semi-retired practice partner, and Annette Crosbie plays Janet, his housekeeper. Jason Flemyng and Jessica Turner respectively portray Dr. Napier, Finlay's new partner, and Dr. Neil, Finlay's assistant. The television show was created by Scottish Television and was filmed in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. The Masterpiece Theatre on PBS broadcast it in the US.
