The Movies is just a picture review tv program produced by Disney ABC Domestic Television by which two film critics shared their own remarks of newly released films. The program aired under various titles. Its original hosts were WLS TV along with Gene Siskel of WBBM-TV and the Chicago Tribune and Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times. After Siskel died in 1999, richard Roeper of those Sun-Times became Ebert's regular partner in 2000. Ebert suspended his appearances with various guest hosts substituting for him for treatment of thyroid cancer, in 2006. By April to August 2008, Michael Phillips of this Chicago Tribune cohosted. Starting on September 6, 2008, E! Entertainment Television movie critic and reporter Ben Lyons along with Sirius Satellite Radio host and prior co-host of Present Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz and this Young Turks took over as hosts. About August 5, 2009, it had been announced that Michael Phillips will return to the show along with New York Times film critic A. O. Scott on September 5, 2009. For prime time Emmy Awards, the show was nominated during its run as hosts seven days and for Outstanding Information Series, the last nomination occurring in 1997. It had been well regarded for its"thumbs up/thumbs down" review summaries given throughout Siskel's and Ebert's tenures. The show aired in syndication from the United States and on CTV in Canada. The show aired through the entire week on the cable network ReelzChannel.
