Sworn Brothers
In the gripping triad story Sworn Brothers, superstars Andy Lau and Cheung Kwok Keung play blood-brothers who sacrifice themselves to save their family. Lau (Andy Lau) is a fast-rising enforcer for the triads, but he is also the sworn brother of Cheung (Cheung Kwok Keung), a Royal Hong Kong Police officer who just got back from Scotland Yard. Although they're on opposite sides of the law, these two guys have a friendship that will last through the years and over their ideological divide. Is it possible that the brotherhood of these two good guys can correct the wrongs of the underworld? Sworn Brothers is a standout triad action-drama in a genre with a lot of similar movies. Tung Piu, who has been in Jackie Chan's Police Story movies, plays a compelling role as a corrupt cop, and there are a lot of exciting action scenes. Sworn Brothers nails the action-drama sweet spot in entertaining and violent fashion, with intense melodrama and the type of elevated emotions that characterize many great eighties Hong Kong films.
