Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors

Ivan falls for Marichka, his father's killer's daughter, in a Carpathian village. When she dies, he grieves for months before marrying Palagna. She wants kids, but he misses his ex. Palagna uses wizardry to get Ivan's attention and falls under the sorcerer's spell, humiliating Ivan, who attacks him. Ivan's tragedy is proportioned by village life, labor, holidays, weddings, funerals, seasons, and nature's beauty.
