Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko

Nikuko is a bold, merry, scatterbrained, and ardent lady who lives in a small northern Japanese coastal town. She is also the sole parent of Kikuko, who is 11 years old and in many ways her polar opposite. Kikuko is a little girl who is thoughtful, quietly curious, and meticulous in her approach to life in this small coastal town. Nikuko embarrasses Kikuko, as any mother of a preteen would, but Nikuko's audacious nature makes her particularly well-known in a community where Kikuko herself want to blend in. As Kikuko navigates the regular social dramas of middle school, augmented with bits of magical realism from her ever-present imagination, a stunning revelation from the past threatens to destabilize their sensitive connection.
