Descendant
There is more to history than what is recorded. For years, Africatown residents in Mobile, Alabama, have told stories about their ancestors. Their town was formed by enslaved ancestors who were carried in 1860 aboard the Clotilda, the final known and illegal slave ship. Though the ship was purposely destroyed upon arrival, its memories and legacy were not. The long-awaited finding of Clotilda's remains now provides this community with a concrete link to their ancestors and validation of a history that many tried to suppress.
