Bang the Drum Slowly

A pro baseball team in New York and two of its players are profiled in this film. Henry Wiggen is the team's great pitcher, while Bruce Pearson is the team's everyday catcher who is far from the team's best player and a friend to everyone. Bruce discovers during the off-season that he is terminally ill, and Henry, his sole genuine friend, vows to be there for him for his final season with the club. Throughout the season, Henry and his teammates struggle to come to terms with Bruce's imminent illness while also wanting to make his final year memorable.
