After serving 13 years of a life sentence for murder, Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza, is released. He registers for a TV show and meets a young TV director named Tsunoda in his quest to locate his long-lost mother, from whom he was estranged as a youngster. He battles in the meantime to integrate into society and find a respectable career. He has conflict with Tsunoda and people who desire to assist him due to his impulsive, obstinate nature, and deeply held convictions.
