The epic narrative of celebrated Pulitzer Prize winning author Alex Haley's ancestors portrayed from the a dozen months miniseries Roots, was told in his 1976 bestseller Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The docudrama covers a time period of history that begins in Gambia and concludes throughout post-Civil War United States. This 1977 mini series eventually won 9 Emmy awards, a Golden Globe award, and a Peabody award, and stands as probably the most watched miniseries at U.S. history.
