Lucy Worsley's Nights at the Opera
For centuries in western civilization, opera has been the best show on the planet. Historian Lucy Worsley explores how animation and history go hand in hand. She visits the excellent European cities by which some of the most famous operas were written, tells the stories of the colourful personalities who wrote them, and shows the way they revealed the turbulent times they were composed in and the lifestyles, hopes and anxieties of the men and women who dwelt inside them. Whilst Lucy visits the cities along with European opera houses, Antonio Pappano, music director of London's Royal Opera, helps us understand some of the operas' finest musical minutes.
