Grand Designs: The Street

Grand Designs: the road has been an epic five years in the building. In this six-part series, presented by Kevin McCloud, cameras follow that the first 10 pioneering households that are building a brand new street from scratch, to which will be the UK's biggest self-build job. This radical experimentation takes place at a prime location near Bicester, only 14 miles away from Oxford and under one hour from London by train. The council bought the property and instead of attempting to sell it to a programmer for a fast profit, they have pre-approved outline preparation and sold plots approximately # 100k each for into the public year. The normal budget for each house is #250,000, and every household would be hoping to build for under it could cost them to get in the region. With budgets ranging to 500k, ages including 24-72, along with outline preparation, each household has a freedom to express themselves in their choice of design and construction procedures. Cameras can catch these building their exclusive homes -- turning a field to a self-build street. It's a excellent opportunity, but perhaps not without risk. In the process, these pioneers will suffer from injury, structural crises, and fiscal and physical exhaustion. The anxiety about self-building can result in connections, and friendships to fail. However, those that see the projects through to end will soon probably be rewarded with amazing homes, tailored to their own requirements, on a street like no other at the UK.
