DARLING in the FRANXX

The story takes place in the far future. The countryside has been devastated, and humanity has established the mobile fort city Plantation. Plantation pilots live in Mistilteinn, often known as the "birdcage." Children grow up there with no knowledge of the outer world or the freedom of the sky. Their lives are spent fighting to complete missions. Their adversaries are unknown enormous lifeforms known as Kyouryuu, and the youngsters operate Franxx robots to combat them. Riding the Franxx validates the existence of the children. Hiro is known as Code:016, and he was formerly considered a prodigy. However, he has slipped behind and his presence appears to be unneeded. Not piloting a Franxx is the same as not existing. One day, he is approached by a mystery girl known as "Zero Two." Her head sprouts two horns.
