Casanova
The Italian adventurer and libertine Giovanni Jacopo Casanova lived from 17-25 to 1798, but in this series Dennis Potter attempted to find a relevance through his themes of religion and sex. He remarked that Casanova"was focused on sexual and religious freedom, and these are what we have to address ourselves to now." Casanova was imprisoned in Venice in 1755, and Potter used that event as a fundamental device, constantly inter-cutting to contrast Casanova's amorous lit, at the forefront of a cell that was half-darkened using his solitary confinement.
