Brass

Brass is really a British show made Channel 4 and by Granada Television for ITV. Found mostly in Utterley, a fictional Lancashire mining town in the 1930s, 1970s proved to be a comedy satirising also the supersoaps such as Dynasty and Dallas as well as the period dramas of the 1970s. Unusually for ITV comedies of this time, there was no laughter trail and also the humour deliberately kept dry, with convoluted word play and subtle commentary on popular culture. Brass is northern English slang for"money" and for"effrontery". The show also gleefully parodied the 1977 Granada TV dramatisation of all Dickens' crisis, which also starred Timothy West. The set, produced by John Stevenson and Julian Roach, was set up to two feuding families--the wealthy Hardacres as well as also the poor, working class Fairchilds, that lived from the Hardacre tribe at a modest house rented. The Hardacre family was headed by the business man Bradley, who espoused Thatcherite rhetoric whilst discovering various schemes to create his organizations more efficient therefore workers could be sacked by him, and his alcoholic aristocratic wife Lady Patience. The mind of this Fairchilds was the stern"Red" Agnes, that disperse militant socialist rhetoric round the Hardacre mine, mill and also munitions factory, and her doltish, forelock-tugging husband George, who is dominated by his own wife and his boss. In a spin, Agnes was additionally Bradley Hardacre's mistress.
