The Girls in the Band
Historically, women have been underrepresented in the realm of jazz, whether as vocalists or pianists. Little has been written about the immensely gifted female trumpet players, saxophonists, and drummers who sought for fame but were denied any serious work by men who didn't want women on their bandstands in the early twentieth century. 'All-Girl Bands' follows the history of all-girl bands and the hardships of the few who managed to break through the male-dominated music industry to the present day, where highly gifted young women are competing against the best jazz musicians of their day.
