The Birth of a Nation

The two families, abolitionist Northerners the Stonemans and also Southern land-owners the Camerons, intertwine in manager D.W. Griffith's contentious Civil War epic. Nurse Elsie Stoneman petitions for his pardon, when Confederate colonel Ben Cameron is recorded in battle. In Reconstruction-era South Carolina, Cameron founds the Ku Klux Klan, combating his African-American protégé and Elsie's congressman daddy.
