With a story about a caper gone wrong, this black comedy depicts the freewheeling émigré milieu of boys short on job and cash but long on heavy drinking in Brooklyn and the Bronx's Irish lairs. James, who recently burned his last bridge and is now without a job or a wife, pairs up with comrade Eoin on a for-hire trip to the racecourse for slippery raconteur Timmy Thomas. In a poor attempt at sleight of hand by a duo who couldn't tell a winning hand from a losing one, the boys screw up spectacularly, putting themselves in serious debt to a group of gangsters. When a daring lady with a soft spot for the sound of Irish and a taste for greenbacks sets her sights on James, the story takes on a new dimension.
