Dark Night

While tracing the circumstances leading up to a mass shooting at a suburban cinema, Dark Night develops in a cryptic manner over the course of one long summer day in the suburbs. In a departure from the true crime genre's narrative conventions, the story is told through fragmentary moments from the lives of numerous persons whose destinies are tragically interwoven in the course of the novel. As the sky darkens, the calm surface of everyday life is disturbed by the presence of a lurking and inevitable terror beneath the surface.
