Nora Wilder (Parker Posey) is a single business lady who works at a Manhattan boutique hotel where her superb guest relations abilities fall short of the romantic. If it isn't her adoring and dominating mother (Gena Rowlands) who repeatedly fails to set her up, she has her friend's (Drea de Matteo) terrible blind dates to fall back on. Nora is surrounded by people who are blissfully engaged or romantically connected, but love eludes her until she meets an eccentric Frenchman (Melvil Poupaud), who assists her in discovering life outside her self-imposed bounds.
