When his companion is killed, difficult Irish investigative Eddie Ryan (Robert Duvall) promises to avenge the fatality, whatever the price. As he begins unraveling ideas, his actions comes to be so horrendous that he's obliged to turn in his badge, yet the experience just pushes him. Ryan ultimately discovers that his companion was caught up in a Puerto Rican gun-running plan masterminded by a crook called Dessert Willie (Henry Darrow), that intends to foment revolutionary war.
